Canadian Experience Class

What Are Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Eligibility Criteria?

Since 2008 the Canadian Experience Class has offered foreign workers and graduates a chance to gain working experience in our country. This program is ideal for candidates who have recently worked in Canada and decided to move here permanently. Once they decide to move to Canada, they can quickly get Canadian permanent residence through this program. CEC is considered the most prominent immigration program for foreign workers, which has excellent success across Canada.

Canadian Experience Class is managed under the Express Entry System and, like any program in this group, uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rate candidates. If you wish to learn more about it, you can seek  legal help and get detailed instructions. After the rating part is over, the next step for those with competitive profiles is to receive invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence. Once the Invitation to Apply (ITA) is received, it takes around six months for the process to get over.

Before all of that, in order to apply, the candidate must be eligible to participate in this process. So they must meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least one year of skilled, professional or technical work experience in Canada within 36 months of the application date,
  • Meet or surpass a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 5 ("initial intermediate") for NOC B jobs or CLB 7 ("adequate intermediate proficiency") for NOC skill level 0 or A positions,
  • Plan to live and work outside the province of Quebec (candidates with work experience in Quebec and who plan to reside in Quebec may apply to the Quebec Experience Class).

You should also be aware of the fact that applicants can remain in Canada during the application process. Still, this program is also open to those not currently living in Canada.

If you’re unsure if you fit these criteria and need more information, call your Canadian immigration lawyer and get advice. You will also learn the exact steps for applying to this program and how to finish it successfully.
