Super visa

The Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents

Suppose you are a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and would like to visit your family in Canada for an extended period. In that case, the Super Visa may be the good option for you. This visa allows the individual to stay in Canada for up to five years without the need for frequent renewals. It is an excellent alternative to traditional visitor visas.

This page will provide all the information about the Super Visa, including eligibility requirements. So, whether you are a first-time applicant or looking to renew your Super Visa, we have you covered.

What Is a Super Visa?

A super visa allows parents and grandparents to visit their children and grandchildren in Canada for extended periods than before. Effective July 4, 2022, the Super Visa got extended for five years. Before this date, parents and grandparents could stay up to two years. However, this visa can be valid for up to 10 years for those who enter multiple times in Canada.

Who Can Apply for the Super Visa?

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents can be eligible to apply for this visa. It’s also important to underline that dependents can’t be included in the application—only parents and grandparents with their spouses or common-law partners.

What Are the Requirements?

In addition, they must meet specific eligibility requirements, which include:

1- A letter of invitation from their children or grandchildren,

2-Proof that their children or grandchildren meet the minimum  necessary income requirements to support them during their staying,

3- Having private medical insurance that is valid for at least one year from the date an individual enters Canada,

4- Completing a medical examination that proves good health.

It’s important to emphasize that meeting the eligibility criteria doesn’t guarantee the approval of a Super Visa. The Canadian government also considers other factors: the purpose of the visit, ties to the home country and immigration history.
